A Message from John Metzcar, AMEND USA President
AMEND USA recently announced a partnership with Rezolute, a biotechnology company focused on treating rare diseases. Through this partnership, we are launching a community-centered initiative designed to better understand and address the needs of individuals and families living with MEN. You may have already seen the first wave of this campaign in our recent survey e-mail. This education and awareness campaign, led collectively by AMEND USA’s Executive Director and Board of Directors, will result in expanded access to reliable information, strengthened peer connections, and elevation of our community’s voice within the medical and therapy development communities.
As part of this partnership, we will share educational material to raise awareness of an ongoing trial sponsored by Rezolute. In particular, Rezolute is currently trialing a medication that aims to treat severe hypoglycemia (dangerously low blood sugar), which can be caused by insulinomas. These pancreatic tumors, while rare, occur all too commonly in those with MEN1, with some producing severe hypoglycemia. This study is an opportunity to determine if this medication would benefit those navigating the challenging symptoms of insulinomas. Our community’s involvement can directly help answer this question and potentially advance the standard of care for managing severe hypoglycemia.
While this is our first partnership with a therapy developer, we hope it isn’t the last. Future collaborations will not only give us a seat at the table, but will also allow us to better serve our MEN community. Together, we will strengthen our excellent community resources to world-class levels and advance community-centered research. We deserve to be front and center in drug development, and our powerful collective action will ensure that research advances make a difference in ways that matter to us, the MEN community.
As such, if you, a loved one, or someone in your care is navigating MEN1 and seeking new treatments for an insulinoma, this trial may be something to consider. To learn more, please contact: patient-affairs@rezolutebio.com or visit: https://upliftstudy.com/.
